Beginners' Spanish (Stage 1)

NOCN 1

We run two short courses at beginners' level:

Course A (Complete Beginners) runs for 10 weeks in the evening in both the autumn and spring terms.

Course B (Continuing Beginners) runs for 10 weeks in the evening in the spring term.

Level of Spanish needed to begin course

Course A (Complete Beginners)
No previous knowledge is required.

Course B (Continuing Beginners)
This course is a continuation of Course A and assumes that you have a knowledge of Spanish equivalent to having completed that course.

Course Content

Course A
The emphasis of this course is on spoken Spanish; developing conversational skills by talking about ourselves and our families and friends. We also cover some topics which would be useful for holidays, such as ordering drinks and asking the way. Some very basic essentials of Spanish grammar are touched on during the course.

Course B
The emphasis is again on spoken Spanish, but also moves on to developing reading comprehension skills. Topics include enquiring about opening and closing times, buying food and goods, booking a hotel room, enquiring about train times and eating out. Further basic essentials of Spanish grammar are covered during the course.
