Outstanding Success for College Biathletes

Thirteen students and a teacher from QE competed in the regional heats of the Schools' Biathlon Championships, held at Ampleforth College.

They did exceptionally well in the gruelling discipline of swimming and running, and two girls' teams and a boys' team (of three) have won through to the national finals in February. At Ampleforth, the winner of the senior girls' run was Julia Orr, and Lewis Moses won the senior boys' run.

Julia Atkinson, Head of PE & Sport, comments:

'It was a tremendous turnout for the College and the students were fantastic, encouraging and motivating each other all day. Julia Orr and Lewis Moses were exceptional in their runs but all who participated pushed themselves and were highly successful as a result. It's great to have three teams - nine athletes - going to the national finals.'

At Ampleforth there was also a teachers' race, and the students persuaded their teacher, Julia Atkinson, to compete. She finished third and has also won a place in the National Finals. Julia concludes:

'The students supported me throughout the day and I was very proud to represent them and the College. I feel honoured to be part of such a great team and will be out there training with them until the February finals.'
