Loud Shirts & 7-a-side
A fundraising day for the Heart Foundation raised more than £600 in memory of Lloyd Peardon.
Staff and students at QE wore 'loud' shirts and organised a staff v students 7-a-side football tournament in memory of maths teacher, Lloyd, who died suddenly during the summer holidays. The day was designed as a tribute to Lloyd who was renowned for his extensive wardrobe of shirts and for his passion for playing football. Students from his tutor group planned the day with help from the Student Association and Staff Committee. One of his tutees, Amy Thomas said:
'We did it for Lloyd because he was a funny, kind and warm form tutor. He always made us laugh and we really miss him.'
Principal, David Heaton added:
'Lloyd was a wonderful man - a most delightful colleague with such a positive, cheerful outlook. He was universally liked and enriched the College in so many ways, everyone misses his irrepressible, bubbly presence.'
The day was well supported and included a competition for the best 'loud' shirt. This was judged by Lloyd's family - his wife Jinny, his daughter Jennifer and his son Adam. Jennifer is a mature student at the College and Adam, who was the president of the Student Association, has just left QE and is now studying at Leeds University. First prize was awarded to student Matthew Gregg for a shirt that Adam said his dad would actually have worn; Amy Thomas and Mike Jupling were runners-up. The accolade for the best staff shirt went to Eric Walker.
The day ended with a 7- a- side football tournament that was played with gusto and spirit. The winning side was a student team - the Phantom Js.
