Transformational New Building Project

Transformational New Building Project

The College has secured funding and obtained planning permission for a new building project valued at £5m.

Construction is now underway to erect a four storey building at the rear of the College to provide specialist facilities in a number of subjects. There will be five new science laboratories with related preparation rooms; a suite of specialist rooms for theatre and performance studies; new classrooms for the teaching of business, leisure and sport studies; and purpose built facilities on the top floor for the teaching of art and design.

An atrium with a glazed roof will link the new building to the west wing of the College, which will be fully re-furbished. The atrium will provide an exciting and innovative space for quiet study and will include a significant number of computer workstations for open access use by students.

As part of the project, the College's sports facilities will be dramatically improved. The old gymnasium and pavilion will both be demolished, to be replaced by a modern sports hall on the main site and a new set of changing rooms and facilities at the Abbey Road fields.

The main contractor for the project is Clugston Construction and it is anticipated that the work on the main site will be completed in time for the academic year beginning in August, 2004.
