Karate Champion

Joanna Dinsdale is celebrating success in the UK Northern Karate Championships. The first year A Level student at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College competed in the 16-20 year old green to red belt category at Barnsley, and came away with the gold medal for fighting and the silver medal for kata (a range of techniques combined together to make a pattern.) She is now training hard in preparation for the UK Championships at Crawley in November.

Red belt Joanna is delighted with her success and is looking forward to the National Championships. She says:

"I do at least 8 hours karate training each week and combine this with my A level studies in PE, Leisure Studies and Travel & Tourism and playing football for the College and for Spraire Lasses. It’s hard work but very rewarding and I hope to be at my peak in November and come away with medals at the National Karate Championships"

Julia Atkinson, Head of PE at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College adds:

"Joanna is a talented athlete and excels not only at karate but also at football. It is admirable how she organises her time and fits in her academic commitments with her demanding training schedule. She is a champion in every sense of the word."

Joanna lives in Middleton- St- George and hopes to eventually be a PE teacher.
