Make Your Enterprising Mark

Make Your Enterprising Mark

Business Studies and Economic students at QE recently took part in the government sponsored Make Your Mark Enterprise Challenge, the UK’s largest one day enterprise challenge for secondary schools and colleges. Eighty- seven students were involved in this exciting and challenging initiative which focused on creating an innovative and entrepreneurial idea inspired by the Olympic & Paralympics Values. Each group produced a business plan that incorporated the Olympic Values and presented this to a panel of judges.

Clare Russ, Head of Business at QE said:

‘We were very pleased with the team working, problem solving and entrepreneurial skills demonstrate by our students; every idea showed enterprising and creative understanding of the business world. The winning team - who named themselves ‘Look 4 Sport’ - consisted of James Lockhart, Jonathan Dunn, Hugh Goeghegan, Carl Hodges, Raymond Lee and Ashley Wood and their idea was to develop an internet site to encourage healthy eating and sporting activities for school children. They demonstrated confidence, determination and independence of thought and we hope they have the drive to make their ideas happen in the national finals which will be held next month in London.’

The College’s work and contribution to enterprise have recently been recognised by One North East with an award of £10,000 for encouraging and promoting enterprise and entrepreneurial skills amongst 16-19 years olds.
