Art Students Show Their Work In London

Jessica Everitt and David Fawcett - students studying Art Foundation at QE – were thrilled to have their pictures hung in the Royal Society of Marine Artists’ Exhibition in the prestigious Mall Galleries in London. The Society ran a Young Artists’ Competition based on the theme of the Sea and Jessica and David were among only eight young artists whose work was shortlisted.

Most entries usually come from London colleges but this year QE students were encouraged to take part to represent the North of England. This came about through the enthusiasm of the Vice President of the Society, marine artist Elizabeth Smith who knows the College and who appreciates the high standard of the artwork produced by students.

Jessica, David and their parents were excited to be present at the Preview of the Exhibition and were very proud to be shortlisted and to see their pictures hanging alongside the work of eminent professional painters. They also felt privileged to meet the President of the Society who was very complimentary and encouraging about their work.

David comments:

“Meeting the members of the RSMA and seeing their work in the exhibition was inspirational and has encouraged me to enter the competition again next year.”

Jessica adds:

“Our day at the Mall Galleries Exhibition was a wonderful experience. It was an honour to have our work selected for display, as well as meeting the President and Associates of the RSMA.”

Rita Smith, Director of Creative Arts concludes:

“We are very grateful for the encouragement and practical help given to us by Elizabeth Smith, Vice President of the RSMA. We have worked together for several years on the Dover Family Fund Committee, a Fund which has made several donations to the College to enable art projects to be realised. Elizabeth has been excited by the variety and quality of artwork she has seen produced by our students and was keen to give them the opportunity to take part in the RSMA competition in London.”
