Winning Story – in German

Mirabelle Medrano-Haste, a student studying A Level German at QE, took part in the UK-German Connection Christmas competition and has been named as one of three national winners. The UK- German Connection is an organisation dedicated to increasing contacts and understanding between young people in Germany and the UK.

Penny Porter, Head of German at QE explains:

“Students were asked to write in German about their own Christmas, make up a Christmas story or write a magazine article on Christmas. Mirabelle, who is half Swedish, wrote a beautiful piece about the Swedish Christmas she celebrates every year and definitely deserved to win.

Mirabelle is exceptionally talented when it comes to languages. She speaks German, Swedish and English and is currently learning Spanish. She intends to study German at university when she leaves QE and her ambition is to eventually become a translator or interpreter.”

Mirabelle says:

“I was extremely pleased to win the competition and it was a fun piece to write. Winning has really motivated me and I’m looking forward to wearing the hoodie which was part of my prize.”
