Maths, Maths and More Maths

Maths, Maths and More Maths

Students studying A Level Mathematics at QE love their Maths.

Last November, 78 of them chose to be involved in the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge and voluntarily gave up their lunchtime to do yet more Maths! They sat what was in effect an exam, testing their ability against thousands of other students from all over the country and the College has just heard that 4 of them have gained top marks and have been awarded gold certificates.

Steve Green, Director of Maths & Computing at QE is delighted with the enthusiasm of his students and the results achieved. He comments:

“We staged the competition on the lunchtime of November 5 during the lunch break so that it did not clash with firework displays and this resulted in the highest number of entries the College has ever had. It was an incredible number who chose to give up their lunchtime to do more Maths and I was absolutely delighted to learn that Liam Fletcher, Lucy Blacklock, Michael Dyson and Adam Shield, have been awarded gold certificates for their excellent results – it’s a tremendous accolade. Liam also received a certificate for obtaining the top result in the College. In addition, a further fifteen students achieved silver certificates and nineteen students won bronze certificates – superb results! “
