Outstanding Further Education in Darlington
Two outstanding Darlington colleges have been praised by the Prime Minister at a special reception at Downing Street for leading the way in further education.
Tim Fisher, Principal of QE and Tim Grant, Principal and Chief Executive of Darlington College, were invited to No 10 to meet with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson and Further Education Minister, Kevin Brennan were also at the special event to celebrate the colleges’ achievements as two of the highest performing education establishments in England.
The accolade places Darlington as one of the best places in the country for students to undertake further education.
Tim Fisher said:
“Our colleges are not only outstanding in terms of their Ofsted ratings but also for working together in partnership with the Borough Council and all secondary schools across Darlington."
Tim Grant added:
“It is a fantastic achievement for the high quality education standards of both colleges within Darlington to be recognised in this way. Only a small number of principals from colleges across the UK were invited to visit Number 10 and Darlington was the only town to be represented twice. That speaks volumes and is something we can be very proud of as a town.”
Prime Minister, Gordon Brown said:
“These colleges are among the very best in the country and I am hugely impressed by their commitment to helping people get the skills, the training and inspiration to achieve their full potential. The principals, staff and students should be very proud of their achievements and I am delighted to celebrate their success.’’
