A British Icon in Lego
Using Lego, 19 year old Justin Ramsden has designed and made a life-sized bust of the pop star Amy Winehouse. Justin, who is studying the BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art & Design at QE, spent two weeks working on the project and used more than 3000 bricks to produce the art work.
Justin explains:
‘I designed this piece as part of my course at QE and the inspiration was British Icons. I really like Lego as it is a different medium in which to express my Art. I like the fact that although it is all bricks and angular, it is still possible to create curves and artistic designs.’
Justin is a member of the Brickish Association (adult fans of Lego) and after going on to university to further his Art studies hopes to eventually become a designer for Lego. Currently, Justin is building a scale model of Barclays Bank on High Row for Darlington’s Art in the Yards project.
