Super Scientists
Students are excelling in Chemistry at QE. An increasing number of students are opting to study the subject, results are excellent and interest is so high that students enthusiastically take part in extra activities, including national competitions for young scientists.
Recently, a team of AS Level Chemistry students entered the Schools' Analyst Competition and won the Teesside section of it. They are now awaiting the results of the other two North East sections, to find out if they’ll go on to represent the North East in the National Finals at the University of Huddersfield in June.
Janet McRae Head of Chemistry at QE explains:
"This is a national event organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry's Analytical Division. It involves completing a series of practical analytical determinations based on problems relevant to industrial or social needs with students being judged on their skill, safety, teamwork, understanding and accuracy.
It is extremely challenging and standards are very high. Our winning team of Abigail Barnett, Michael Boylan and Josh Phillips was absolutely outstanding and deserve to go through to the national finals. Abigail, Michael and Josh have shown that they have a real aptitude for analytical science and I am delighted with their achievement."
