Indian Ambassador
In November Hannah Marshall will travel to India to help develop sport in deprived areas of Rajasthan and to raise the profile of volunteering amongst young people in this country. 17 year old Hannah is a student at QE and last September was selected as one of British Colleges Sport’s National Ambassadors – a position held by only 10 students across the country. As a National Ambassador her role is to promote sporting opportunities, particularly football, to young people. In this respect Hannah has done a tremendous amount of volunteering within the college, the local community and nationally and the project in India will be the culmination of this work.
Karl Lines from British Colleges Sport explains:
“Our National Ambassadors are 10 of the most promising students from Further Education and this link with India will provide a unique learning experience for them, enabling them to test their communication and sports coaching skills in a different environment. It will also develop a cultural awareness and appreciation of India and this will be used to support the inclusion of ethnic minority populations in sport in the UK. Finally, it will help establish a legacy of young people in the UK supporting young people in India."
Hannah adds:
“This is an amazing opportunity which will round off an absolutely fantastic year. Whilst in India the aim is to work with schools and colleges in underprivileged areas to develop sport and set up a football club in a local community. This project will take the skills I have developed in my local community onto an international scale. To support the cost of travelling and working in India, I have to raise £1000 and am organising a range of events to do so. The first will be a cake stall at QE and I am busy enlisting the help of people to bake cakes!”
At QE Hannah is studying A Level PE, Biology and Leisure and next September will go onto Northumbria University to read a degree in Applied Sports Science.
