Andrew Kelly, a student at QE has had a superb football season. Andrew has represented Durham County Schools FA Under-18 Boys and has also been an integral part of the England Schools U-18 Squad for the Centenary Shield Campaign against the other home nations.

Elections have been held for new leaders of the Student Association at QE. Five candidates stood for the post of President of the Association and all conducted lively campaigns to secure the votes of their peers.

- Champions of Champions
24 students from QE recently competed in the British Colleges’ Sport national finals at Loughborough University and enjoyed great success.

- Indian Ambassador
In November Hannah Marshall will travel to India to help develop sport in deprived areas of Rajasthan and to raise the profile of volunteering amongst young people in this country. 17 year old Hannah is a student at QE and last September was selected as one of British Colleges Sport’s National Ambassadors – a position held by only 10 students across the country. As a National Ambassador her role is to promote sporting opportunities, particularly football, to young people. In this respect Hannah has done a tremendous amount of volunteering within the college, the local community and nationally and the project in India will be the culmination of this work.

- Super Scientists
Students are excelling in Chemistry at QE. An increasing number of students are opting to study the subject, results are excellent and interest is so high that students enthusiastically take part in extra activities, including national competitions for young scientists.

- Sport Relief
QE students joined forces with students from Darlington College to raise funds for Sport Relief. Using the Abbey Road playing fields, students and staff from the two colleges got active to raise cash and change the lives of disadvantaged people in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. Joint activities included a sponsored football match, supported by Darlington Football Club’s community coaches Neil Maddison and Kevin Stonehouse, and a women’s fancy dress tag rugby game.

- A British Icon in Lego
Using Lego, 19 year old Justin Ramsden has designed and made a life-sized bust of the pop star Amy Winehouse. Justin, who is studying the BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art & Design at QE, spent two weeks working on the project and used more than 3000 bricks to produce the art work.

- QE Ambassadors!
34 students studying A Level French at QE have just spent a wonderful week in Paris, visiting celebrated sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe and the Orangerie museum, as well as soaking up the more atmospheric quarters of the Sacre Coeur and Montmartre.
