  • Battle of the Bands
    Isotopia won the annual Battle of the Bands competition at QE. Two preliminary heats were held at the Forum in Borough Road to whittle the final down to nine bands.

  • Have Fun and Be Healthy Before Christmas
    Before the excesses of Christmas, staff and students at QE indulged in a health week. During the week all sorts of activities - some fun, some serious - took place to raise the profile of a healthy lifestyle and the benefits of it.

  • Grand History Quiz
    Almost one hundred students took part in a mammoth History Quiz. Competing in teams of four, the students enjoyed the challenge of answering questions on varied aspects of history from different eras. The quiz included a music round and a picture round and, generally, everyone entered into the Christmas spirit.

  • Success in Holland: Sponsorship at Home
    QE student Jan Gosiewski has just returned from Holland after competing in an international Judo competition. For the first time, on one day, he took part in both an Under 18 tournament and a senior contest and did very well at the two levels.

  • North East Badminton Champions
    For the first time, QE hosted a major British Colleges' Sports Event. Last week, using the new Sports Hall, the College held the North East regional badminton championships. Players from all over the region - Scarborough, Huddersfield, York, Hartlepool, Guisborough - travelled to Darlington to compete in the prestigious competition, vying for places in the national finals.

  • New Year Adult Classes
    A new programme of adult evening classes begins in January. The programme has just been launched and includes a range of courses in French, German, Spanish and Italian and general interest classes in computing, Musical Keyboard and archaeology.

    The annual Christmas Carol Concert takes place on Wednesday, 14th December at 7.30pm. This is a change of date from that originally advertised.

    QE sent representatives to compete in the Northern Region Biathlon Competition at Ampleforth College.

  • Phoenix at QE
    The Phoenix Dance Company, a well-known professional touring group, spent a morning at QE working with AS Level Dance students. The workshop focused on the Phoenix Company's new production 'Planted Seeds'.

  • Expedition - on Horseback
    Five students who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh's silver award have decided to do their expedition on horseback. The three-day expedition is a compulsory component of the award and most people use "shanks' pony" rather than real horses!
