Seventeen year old Sophie Craggs, a student at QE, is celebrating her success in a prestigious international dance competition.
December 19, 2007 - Big Cheque
Students from QE regularly fund raise for St Teresa’s Hospice – a charity very close to many of their hearts. Recently they staged a fun St Trinian's Day when students and staff donned their old school uniforms and raised £730.74. David Jones and Andy Fenner from the Hospice were delighted to visit the College to collect a ‘big’ cheque from the students.
December 19, 2007 - North East 5-A-Side Champions
A squad of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College students travelled from Darlington to Soccer City at Huddersfield for the annual British Colleges’ North East boys’ 5-a–side competition and they came away victorious.
December 5, 2007 - British Colleges’ Sport – Rugby
In October, British Colleges’ Sport held rugby trials and four players from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College were selected to represent the North-East colleges in a match against the North-West at Preston.
November 28, 2007 - Nothing Less Than Outstanding
At the beginning of October, Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College was inspected by Ofsted – the Office for Standards in Education. The inspectors’ report, published on November 23, confirms that QE is a centre of excellence and is one of the country’s leading colleges. The inspectors focused on five key areas – effectiveness of provision, capacity to improve, achievement and standards, quality of provision, leadership and management – and they concluded that the college was outstanding in all aspects of its work. Hence the top grade – grade1 - was awarded across the board.
November 27, 2007 - National Youth Orchestra
Talented musician, Jonathan Brewer, has won a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The seventeen year old, from Richmond, is a student at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College and was selected for the orchestra after auditioning in Glasgow and London.
November 20, 2007 - Netball Stars Of The Future
Two students studying for their A Levels at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington are achieving great things in national level netball. Rachel Bird and Rachel Dauber attended trials over the summer for Team Northumbria which represents North East England in the new Netball Super League, the highest level of domestic competition in the sport. The League features world-class athletes competing against each other to become the country’s number one netball team and has good media coverage on Sky Sports.
November 12, 2007 - Karate Champion
Joanna Dinsdale is celebrating success in the UK Northern Karate Championships. The first year A Level student at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College competed in the 16-20 year old green to red belt category at Barnsley, and came away with the gold medal for fighting and the silver medal for kata (a range of techniques combined together to make a pattern.) She is now training hard in preparation for the UK Championships at Crawley in November.
November 12, 2007 - Vocation Vocation Vocation
Chetan Kotur, will be a television star for a day. On Wednesday, 14th November Channel 4 will devote a full programme to him and his career dilemma in their production ‘Vocation, Vocation, Vocation’, screened at 9.30 am.
November 12, 2007 - St Trinian’s for St Teresa’s
Students at QE organised a St Trinian’s Day to raise money for St Teresa’s Hospice. Students and members of staff dressed up in their old school uniforms and during the day the Student Association organised best dressed competitions, a quiz and lots of other fun activities.
