Student Support
The College actively promotes equality of opportunity, regardless of such characteristics as gender, age, ethnic group, sexual orientation, religion/belief or disability. Mutual respect is encouraged and expected in all relationships.
A Disability Statement is produced and updated each year. It gives information about what the College can offer to anyone with a disability which interferes with their ability to carry out normal day to day activities. You can get a copy of this statement by telephoning the College, calling at reception or asking the liaison tutor who interviews you. If you are disabled, please ensure that we know what you need so that we can make all reasonable adjustments to help you succeed.
Specific additional learning support is available at the College and assistance is arranged to complement the main learning programme of students. Please inform the liaison tutor when you are interviewed if you think you could benefit from this type of support. In addition, please describe any difficulties you have experienced in the relevant section of the application form.
The College also has a mentoring system to provide students with weekly one to one support sessions if they are experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties. The sessions are student centred, informal meetings which help students with their studies and encourage and motivate them to succeed at College. Mentoring is particularly helpful for those students who think they may have problems in making the transition from school to College. Mentors arrange to meet these prospective students in Year 11 in schools and support them through the early stages of College life. If you think you could benefit from a mentor, please inform the liaison tutor when you are interviewed.
There is also a College Counsellor who is available to help students with personal or emotional problems and a College Nurse is on site twice a week to advise on health issues.
In addition, the College offers financial assistance and support for transport costs through a variety of schemes. Contact Laurence Job LJOB@qeliz.ac.uk, Assistant Principal, for full details.
