‘Art in the doorways’

THE first stage of an arts project aimed to brighten up the entrances to Darlington’s Victorian Market Hall went on display on Tuesday 2 October. Residents and visitors to Darlington will soon enjoy four large pieces of artwork that will hang on display in the entrances to Darlington Market Hall from November 2012.

From thousands of applicants, Rebecca Duffy - a student at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College - was one of sixty young people from across the country to be selected for an all - expenses paid, voluntary 2 week placement in London.

Volunteering in Romania

This summer 18 students and two members of staff from Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth's Sixth Form in Darlington visited Romania. This was no ordinary visit as they travelled to Romania to do voluntary work, helping to build and repair housing in Brasov, a project based around the Roma Community who face much discrimination.

College Wins FA Awards

Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington has been awarded an FA Educational Award for its ‘Outstanding Contribution to Football Development.’ The award was for the work that the College does through football in terms of participation, coaching, officiating, leadership, volunteering and the on-going development of the Futsal programme.

Overcoming Language and Cultural Barriers

Karolina Checinska arrived in Darlington from Cracow, Poland 5 years ago at the age of 14 and didn’t speak a word of English. However, she is celebrating gaining exceptional A Level results and will progress to Northumbria University in the autumn to study a degree in Business.
