Award Success for QE’s Combined Cadet Force

QE’s Combined Cadet Force were honoured with two highly prestigious awards during the Lord Lieutenant Award Ceremony. On Tuesday 5th March the Lord Lieutenant of Durham, Sue Snowdon bestowed Captain Kathleen Wilson with the Certificate for Meritorious Service. She received the reward for her outstanding work not only in the CCF but the ACF also. Captain Wilson has been an irreplaceable driving force within the CCF which has culminated in it doubling in size over the past year. Her dedication to always promote a positive experience to all cadets was evident in 2022 when she solely organised and delivered a summer camp for both CCF contingents in Darlington after the annual brigade camp was cancelled.

Contingent Commander Captain Emma Hurry commented “Kat is a essential part of QE CCF who is wholly deserving of this award.”

Cadet Staff Sergeant Jessica Buckton has achieved the most prestigious award available to a cadet she has been decorated with Lord Lieutenant Cadet. This is the first time a member of QE CCF has gained this award and the first time Lord Lieutenant Sue Snowdon has selected someone from Darlington.

Contingent Commander Emma Hurry said of Jess “She is the epitome of the cadet standards and values. Jess is a fantastic role model to other cadets, someone who goes above and beyond within the contingent. I am immensely proud of Jess’ achievements and hard work throughout her time in cadets.”
