Harry Duggan, a student at QE is celebrating after gaining a higher apprenticeship with award winning Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers, Ribchesters in County Durham. Harry, who is studying A levels in Maths, Economics and Politics, will start on a Level 4 apprenticeship and will be able to progress to become a Chartered Accountant; his professional exams being funded by the company. Harry applied for his apprenticeship through the National Apprenticeship website and, after an initial interview with a training provider, his application was forwarded to the company. Harry was interviewed by three partners in the firm who put him through a very rigorous interview process.
Harry says “This is an amazing opportunity to work for a great firm. I feel very lucky to have been successful. My advice to students looking for apprenticeships is to do your background work on the company you are applying for as employers need to know if you can fit in with their team. Preparing for apprenticeships takes time and effort – you really need to know what the job role is about and how you have developed some of the skills and qualities that makes you a good fit. I am really looking forward to getting started and I know that I will have a sound career ahead of me as an Accountant.”
Liz Bryan, Careers Adviser adds “Harry has worked really hard to secure a good job – he understood the need to develop some of the skills employers are looking for and he has done this through part-time work and relevant work experience. He has a great personality with excellent communication skills and I am sure he will be a success in the role he has chosen.”
