Digital Challenge

Students studying Computing and ICT at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College experienced an exciting challenge day working with professionals from BIMA (British Interactive Media Association) and the Newcastle based Digital Agency Think Ltd.

It was a great opportunity for them to find out about the range of careers in the digital industry by getting involved in team activities to solve problems in coding and multi-media disciplines. The day took learning out of the classroom and set it in the real world.

Dan Nisbet from BIMA said:

‘We had an absolutely brilliant day at QE. The students knew quite a lot about careers in the computer games industry but weren’t really aware of the breadth of roles in a digital agency, from UX designers and creative strategists to project managers and everything in between. It was great to meet the students, set them digital challenges and show them some of the work we’re creating right now. We even had a little fan club when the students heard that the guys that made Pottermore were in the building.

Jacqueline Suter, ICT and Computing Teacher, commented:

‘The students were fascinated by BIMA’s work on Pottermore and Sony.  Most of them had no experience of an office where there are beanbags and ways to support creativity – they all thought it must be like the Matrix where people wear suits and work in cubicles!

The day was a fabulous success all round. It was great to see the students working so well on the challenge to become the BIMA School’s Digital Champion.’
