Gaining A Levels takes students on to university but also gives access to a vast range of employment opportunities.
Cathy Hodgson, Careers Adviser at Darlington’s Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College explains:
‘ A Levels open the doors to all sorts of opportunities – they are a gold standard which employers understand and value. Here at QE about 700 of our students will progress to university this Autumn following their A level results but a good number will also move directly into employment. We pride ourselves at QE about giving excellent careers guidance and are delighted when students find employment directly after leaving college, especially now when there is so much competition for work. Pamela Allenson is one of QE’s employment success stories and she really does deserve the opportunity she has secured.’
Pamela, from Sedgefield, is one of QE’s employment success stories. Pamela took A Levels in Travel & Tourism, French and Business and achieved very good results in all of them, including an A grade in Travel. She was determined to find work in the Travel Industry on leaving College and is delighted that she has been able to fulfil her ambition, having secured employment with Hays Travel where she will be trained to industry standards.
‘It’s a dream come true. I could have gone on to university but always wanted to go straight in to work, preferring to learn on the job. I am grateful to Cathy, my careers adviser at QE, for believing in me, supporting me and encouraging me in my applications for work. She was confident that I would succeed and this gave me increased confidence in following my ambition.’
