Fred Millman

Fred Millman, a student at QE, has done exceptionally well attaining four A grades at A Level in Maths, Computing, ICT and Graphics. Other students may have matched his results, but Fred’s achievement is absolutely outstanding as he is profoundly deaf and relies on hearing aids. However, this has not held him back and he will now move on to Bath University to study Computer Science.
At QE Fred worked hard to overcome difficulties and fulfil his potential. A Learning Support Assistant took notes for him in all his lessons which is not an easy way of learning and which meant he had to concentrate carefully to maximise his success. But he never gave up, met all his academic deadlines and even found time to support other young people with hearing loss. He also had part-time employment, managing databases, designing websites and writing travel blogs alongside his studies.
Joy Colthup, Director of Enrichment at QE, said:
‘Fred is a fantastic student who deserves his success. His commitment to pursuing excellence in everything he does is an inspiration to other students. His cheerful attitude, lively sense of humour and persevering approach have made him popular with both staff and students.’
