Gap Year in Guyana

Date Posted: 01/03/2013 | Posted In: Latest news

Peter Smith, at QE, has come up with some different and exciting ways of raising funds for his Gap Year with Project Trust in Guyana.

On Sunday March 3 he will do a sponsored bungee jump from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, something he is really looking forward to. Peter is a member of the Magic Circle and, through his contacts in the Circle, has organised a mentalist show at the Forum in Darlington on Thursday, March 7. Tickets for the show, which also features the band Doberman, are priced at £6.

Peter explains:

‘I want to experience different cultures, travel widely and help others less fortunate than myself and so feel very privileged to have been selected by Project Trust to work with children from deprived backgrounds in Guyana. After my A Levels I’ll be in Guyana for a year teaching English and Geography in a school and I also intend to set up extra – curricular activities, possibly a magic club as I am a semi- professional magician.’

To take up his voluntary work in Guyana, Peter has to raise £5000. If anyone would like to buy a ticket for the concert at the Forum, Peter can be contacted at pete153@hotmail.co.uk; sponsorship for the bungee jump can be pledged through   www.virginmoneygiving.com/Petesmith.

At QE, Peter is studying A Level Geography, Economics and Psychology.  After his Gap Year, Peter will go to either Chester University or Northumbria University to study Geography.
