The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is one of the United Kingdom’s biggest and most well known charities, and members of the Interact Club from QE wanted to support their fantastic work by organising a Wanted Stock event. Working closely with the Darlington branch, they encouraged staff and students to donate unwanted clothing and other household goods with the items being sold in store and all money raised going towards vital research into heart and circulatory diseases. In total, the College managed to fill 60 bags and boxes with donations equating to £900 worth of products.
Rebecca Stott, Treasurer of the Interact Club, explains: ‘It was wonderful to see staff and students come together and support a charity which conducts such important research, we managed to collect a fantastic amount of stock’. Nancy Wall, Co-Ordinator of the Interact Club, adds: ‘The BHF in Darlington needs to generate up to 600 bags of donations per week to stock the branch and continue their work, and we hope that the items collected at our event will make a difference. Sadly, most people know somebody who has been affected by these conditions and the students worked extremely hard to encourage staff and their peers to get involved and donate’.
The Interact Club will continue working with the BHF this autumn when they complete a course in CPR training.
