Interact Students Create Book of Cancer Patient’s Poems

Date Posted: 25/02/2020 | Posted In: Latest news

Members of the Interact Club from QE have illustrated a book comprised of poems written by cancer patient, Bill Craggs. Bill, a retired accountant, journalist and author, wanted to support others going through the same treatment as him and wrote a collection of love poems for songs under the heading of ‘knitting together’. The students then worked with Bill to design and collate the book, providing many of the poems with their own unique illustrations and bringing the concept of ‘knitting together’ to life. This highlights how all those touched by cancer are brought together. With help from Pat Chambers, a fundraiser from County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust, the books are now available to purchase with all money raised going towards a new cancer care unit.

Petra Buckle, President of the Interact Club at QE, comments: ‘It was great to work with Bill and create a book full of his works, and it is even better that we are raising money for such a great cause. I hope lots of people buy a copy’.

The ‘Knitting Together’ poetry books are now being sold in eight local hospitals and can also be ordered from Nancy Wall, QE’s Student Services Co-Ordinator (nwall@qeliz.ac.uk).
