Students at QE recently held elections for a new Student Association President and Vice President.

This year six candidates were in the running for the prestigious positions and overall student interest was phenomenal with the majority exercising their right to vote. The candidates created their own promotional campaigns, presented their views in speeches in a packed Student Common Room and produced short videos to highlight their ideas. They all did superbly well, proposing changes and policies to enhance the student experience.

The new President of the Student Association is Jasper Bruce-Wright and the Vice President is Nile Sharma. Jasper is studying A level Computing, Further Maths, Physics and Critical Thinking and hopes to eventually  become a Mechanical Engineer; Nile is studying  A Level Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and Critical Thinking and aims to study Medicine at university.

On running for the Presidential role, Jasper said:

‘I found that I learned a lot about myself during the campaign week, especially from talking to students to get their views and having to write and deliver my speech. I am looking forward to having a positive impact in and around College and working with Nile and the rest of the Student Association.’

Nile added:

‘The election was a really exciting but testing process that allowed me to gain new skills. It’s been motivational to  get so much support from the vast numbers who voted and, with Jasper, I am determined to deliver the best student experience possible.’

Beccy Stannard, Student Services Co-ordinator, concludes:

‘Next year promises to be  exciting. Jasper and Nile are both really passionate students who are dynamic and determined to make a difference. I’m looking forward to working with them.’
