Lockdown Stories – Megan & Ellie

Big thanks to Megan Hodgson for providing this update on the fantastic work that Ellie and herself are involved with.
“I am part of the Colburn Scrub Hub, I work in a team which consists of my sister, mum, aunty, Ellie, who is also a student at QE, and me. We have been doing this since the first week of lockdown and have been at the Colburn Village Hall almost every night since. We basically cut out pattern pieces for a set of and then put them in a bundle for our amazing sewing team to collect each morning. I have sewn a few sets myself however cutting them out and being there to talk to people collecting them has been very time consuming but definitely worth it! Currently we have made over 1500 sets of scrubs that have been distributed from our tiny hall all over the region, we have made scrubs for Harrogate mental health teams, James Cook Hospital, The Friary Hospital, local doctors and dentist surgery’s and many more. As the peak has settled down there is a lesser demand for scrubs so we make them when they are ordered now and are largely concentrated on making face masks! We are currently making around 500 face masks a week that are distributed to different towns and villages. Someone must stand at a table in the town/village centre and hand out masks to those who have none. All of the things we make and give out are completely FREE however if individuals want to make a donation that is completely fine. We have been able to afford all of the rolls of fabric due to donations from citizens as well as council members”.
Really well done to Megan and Ellie you are a credit to the college. Visit @thecolburnvillagehall on Facebook to find out more about their amazing work.
