Date Posted: 08/10/2012 | Posted In: Latest newsThroughout National Women’s Football Week (1st – 5th October), students at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington took up the challenge of helping to increase the profile of women’s football by taking part in a range of activities.
The week started with Paul Carroll, QE’s Sports Co-ordinator and students Ryan Todd, Tom Mason and Harry Spence going into Hummersknott Academy before the start of the school day to organise futsal sessions for 40 girls from years 7, 8, 9 and 10. The three students taught the girls the basic rules and skills used in futsal and ran a question and answer session about futsal and the football opportunities at QE.
On the Friday, the College ran an ‘introduce a friend to Futsal/Football’ session aimed at female students and encouraging all female footballers/sports people to bring along a friend to get involved!! The session, delivered by Paul Carroll and Gareth Lee (BCS North East Football Co-ordinator), was popular and introduced a good number of new players to futsal in a fun and relaxing way. The session ended with awards being given for various achievements and the new players expressing interest in playing futsal in the future.
