Seventeen students and two members of staff from QE are off to Nepal at the weekend on a World Challenge expedition. Once in Nepal, they will to carry out voluntary work in a school in Katmandu.

In preparation for their journey the students visited Northwood Primary School in Darlington to collect some friends to take with them  – Theresa Tiger, Cheeky Charlie Monkey and Bob the Bear from Northwood’s foundation classes. The soft toys will go to Nepal with the students and photos of the mascots will be sent back to Northwood to keep the children informed of their progress, integrating their travels into their curriculum.  This is the second QE expedition that the school’s mascots have travelled on, the first being a visit to Ethiopia last year.

Nancy Wall, teacher and expedition leader, said:

“Our links with Northwood are strong and it’s really positive that we can share the experience of our students with younger children.  I hope it inspires the Northwood pupils in the same way I was inspired as a child and that we give them the travelling bug.”

On their return from Nepal, the students will visit Northwood to give a presentation about their experiences.
