Recently, 34 students studying A Level French at QE enjoyed a homestay visit with host families in Lisses, near Paris.
The students went to numerous local attractions and sights of historical importance. They had two full days in Paris visiting the Notre Dame towers, the Panthéon, la Sainte Chapelle, the Paris catacombs and ‘Paris Story’, an interactive and multimedia visitor centre based on the history of Paris and its people. There was also a tour of the Château of Fontainebleau and its gardens, led by very knowledgeable tour guides who brought to life the history of the chateau. In addition, half a day was spent in a local secondary school to gain insight into the French education system, one of the key AS Level examination topics.
Sam Baty, Head of French at QE commented:
‘Spending time in Paris and staying with families gave the students an excellent opportunity to practise their French and experience French life first hand. During the whole trip there was a real sense of camaraderie amongst the group and they were excellent ambassadors for the College. They very much enjoyed experiencing French culture and meeting French people – their French language skills and confidence really improved by the end of the week.’
