A Level Computer Science students from QE have relished the exciting opportunity to attend a cyber security masterclass courtesy of Dr. Aminu Usman and Dr. Yang Lu from York St. John University. The workshop focused on a range of cyber security elements including cyber hygiene; the practice of keeping safe online, and keylogging; the tracking and recording of an individual’s actions through the use of their keyboard. The session also featured practical activities on packet sniffing; the monitoring of network traffic, and coding injections allowing students to fully get to grips with the best ways to prevent cybercrime.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the event with many describing it as ‘interesting, informative and very fun’. Immie Strickland commented: ‘I enjoyed keylogging as we were able to try it out in addition to learning how it works’. Darryn Gordon, Course Leader for Computer Science at QE, adds: ‘It was a great, practical experience for our students and a chance for them to learn about an exciting and expanding field within the computer science industry. Aminu and Yang were excellent and I have no doubt that they will have generated much interest in their subject’.
