QE students aim higher with sports leadership award
Date Posted: 28/07/2021 | Posted In: Latest news
Sport and Leisure students at QE have once again taken full advantage of the extra qualifications available to them by completing the Higher Sports Leadership Award. The Award, obtained in addition to the Level 3 qualification, provides students with the exciting opportunity to develop the skills sought after by employers and universities whilst allowing them to fully enrich their time at College. During the course, they studied a variety of different areas including the roles of a coach, health and safety, communication techniques and self-reflection. For the practical element, the students delivered activities in new and innovative ways, from using Zoom to host seated aerobics sessions in care homes to creating bubbles within their households in order to run fitness programmes. The efforts of staff and students did not go unnoticed as they were asked to participate in a ‘Sharing Best Practice’ event hosted by Sports Leaders UK during the second lockdown.
Student, Megan Davies, comments: ‘This year has brought many challenges, but I have thoroughly enjoyed completing the Higher Sports Leadership Award. The course has helped me to develop my confidence and communication skills, and I have learnt how to adapt activities during the ongoing pandemic. The qualification also awarded me 16 UCAS points which have benefitted me when moving on to the next stage after College’.
