QE’s Sport & leisure students show support for Black History Month

Staff and students from the Sport and Leisure department at QE have proudly incorporated Black History Month into their studies to coincide with the annual celebration. To begin the month, a striking door display was created featuring Colin Kaepernick. Colin, a former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, is now a political activist and first protested against racial injustice in the USA by kneeling during the American national anthem. In addition to this fantastic artwork, the Sport and Leisure department have been uploading posts of iconic sporting moments to their social media accounts to celebrate diversity. The topic of sport, race and racism is also just one of many contemporary issues studied on the course.
Nancy Wall, Course Leader for Sport and Leisure, comments: ‘Sadly, racism in sport is an area that we still teach in Sport and Leisure. Black History Month is a time for us to both challenge racism and celebrate diversity, and to recognise that there is only one race, the human race’.
The Sport and Leisure department can be followed on both Twitter (@QE_SportLeisure) and Instagram (@qe_sport_travel).
