Rock Antics at QE

Date Posted: 12/12/2014 | Posted In: Latest news

This term there’s been a rise in the number of ‘non-sport’ students accessing QE’s Enrichment Sport & Physical  Activity Programme. This is largely due to the vast range of activities and new sport on offer.

Rock Climbing is one of the new activities, with exciting sessions being run by the College in partnership with Rock Antics, the climbing centre in Newton Aycliffe. The sessions take place on a Wednesday evening and have attracted a  range  of students from very skilled climbers to complete beginners.

Joe Cooke, QE’s College Sport Maker, commented:

‘This project is being part -funded by Sportivate, a Sport England fund which enables students to access new  and exciting opportunities in their local area.  Adding rock climbing to our Sport offer has been fantastic and it is great to be working in partnership with a strong organisation like Rock Antics. Thanks go to Chemistry teacher Julia Magnall, and student Rachel Dyke, keen climbers who have really taken a lead and helped  students during the sessions.’

QE has more sessions booked with Rock Antics in the New Year, so any student interested in joining should email Joe on jcooke@qeliz.ac.uk.
