Stanhope Park’s Spring Clean

Date Posted: 17/04/2018 | Posted In: Latest news

Members of the Interact Club from QE joined forces with Darlington Friends of the Earth and Darlington Borough Council to carry out a litter pick in Stanhope Park as part of LitterFree Durham’s annual Big Spring Clean event. The initiative aims to encourage communities to come together and clean up local areas, in addition to making them more aware of the impact waste has on the environment. The students, armed with litter pickers and high visibility jackets, voluntarily gave up their lunchtime to collect rubbish around the park and surrounding streets and they managed to fill several sacks, contributing to a cleaner environment for both their peers and local residents.

QESFC’s Interact Club, established in 2017, has recently started to focus on introducing ways to protect the local environment and the litter pick was a great opportunity for them to promote their cause. Nancy Wall, Co-Ordinator of the Interact Club, comments: ‘We all share the same environment and therefore all have a responsibility to look after it. It was wonderful to see these young people taking positive steps to make Darlington a cleaner place’.
