Wildcats ready to go at QE

Date Posted: 15/03/2017 | Posted In: Latest news

QE will be providing girls in the area with increased opportunities to play football after a new nationwide participation programme was announced. The programme will see 200 SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres opening throughout England this Spring, each run in conjunction with the local County FA and their key partners.   The move will provide girls aged from 5 to 11, who haven’t played regular football, with opportunities to play and take part in organised sessions in a fun, engaging and safe environment over a minimum 16 week period.

The project is an integral part of The FA’s objective to double girls’ football participation by 2020 and has been established in a joint partnership between The FA and SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup

One of the new SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres, within Durham County FA, will be taking place in conjunction with Darlington Football Development Hub; a collaboration between QE, Darlington Spraire Lads & Lasses FC and other local partners. Sessions will take place every Tuesday for 16 weeks starting Tuesday 21st March 2017, 4.30-5.30pm at QE sports hall, costing £1.00 per session.

Parents and carers who attend with the girls will also have the optional opportunity to take part in football-related fitness sessions at the same time as the girls (subject to numbers interested).

Lauren Naisbitt, a female football student activator at QE says “This is a fantastic opportunity for girls to get involved and have fun; we can’t wait to start Wildcats.”
